Nyx was off the phone by the time I came out of the bedroom. She looked up from where she was sitting at the table, picking at some of the fruit before turning her attention back to the food.

“Did you get ahold of Ambrose?” I asked, keeping my tone as casual as I could manage.

“He’s coming down as soon as he can get a flight.”

“Maury’s on board with helpin’ us.” I sat down next to her. “We just need to figure out how you want to give your confession.”

Before we could really get a conversation going about it, someone knocked on the door.

“It’s me.”

For a moment, I wondered why Perenelle didn’t just use her key, but then I remembered that I had it, and I’d used the other locks. “Coming!”

She came inside as soon as I opened the door, her cheeks flushed and her eyes wide. “You’re never going to believe what I just found.”
